Terms and Conditions
The terms that govern access to and use of PaperOne services.
Last updated
These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of PaperOne’s websites, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility and accounts
You must be legally able to enter into these Terms. You are responsible for providing accurate account information, safeguarding your account, and notifying us promptly if you believe it has been compromised. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless applicable law provides otherwise.
2. The Service
PaperOne provides tools for discovering, organizing, reading, annotating, and analyzing academic literature, including AI-assisted search and synthesis features. We may improve, add, remove, or change features over time. Availability may depend on your plan, location, or third-party services.
3. Your content
As between you and PaperOne, you retain any rights you already hold in papers, notes, annotations, prompts, reports, and other content you submit to the Service (“Your Content”). Uploading third-party material does not give you ownership of that material. You grant PaperOne a limited permission to host, process, reproduce, and transmit Your Content only as needed to operate, secure, maintain, and support the Service. You represent that you have the rights needed to submit and use Your Content through the Service.
If you share content with a team or collaborator, the people you select may be able to view, copy, edit, or export it according to the sharing controls available in the Service. You are responsible for choosing the appropriate access settings.
4. AI-assisted features
AI-generated searches, summaries, citations, classifications, and other outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for your purpose. You are responsible for reviewing source material and verifying outputs before relying on, publishing, or submitting them. The Service does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to:
- break the law or infringe another person’s rights;
- upload content you do not have permission to use;
- distribute malware or attempt unauthorized access;
- interfere with, overload, or evade limits protecting the Service;
- misrepresent generated output as independently verified evidence; or
- help another person engage in any prohibited activity.
6. Subscriptions and payment
Paid plans, prices, billing periods, usage allowances, and renewal terms are shown before purchase. By starting a paid subscription, you authorize our payment processor to charge the displayed fees and applicable taxes. You may cancel through the account subscription controls; cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are provided when required by applicable law or expressly stated at purchase.
7. PaperOne property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, and documentation, is owned by PaperOne or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service while the Terms remain in effect; they do not transfer ownership of the Service to you.
8. Third-party content and services
The Service may retrieve or link to academic publications, websites, models, payment services, identity providers, and other third-party resources. Those resources are governed by their own terms and policies. PaperOne does not control third-party content and is not responsible for its availability, accuracy, or legality.
9. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may restrict or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect users or the Service, respond to legal requirements, address non-payment, or enforce these Terms. Where reasonably practicable, PaperOne may explain the restriction through the Service or an account communication.
10. Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” PaperOne disclaims warranties that are not expressly stated in these Terms, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service or any generated output will always be accurate, available, secure, or error-free.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, PaperOne will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill, or opportunities arising from use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, law, or our practices. We will post the revised Terms here and update the date above. Please review the current Terms before continuing to use the Service. Continued use after the updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
13. Contact
